Uzhgorod is a compact and very green city, which is often called “European” for its cozy atmosphere and rich history. Here's a quick guide to help you get your bearings. 🏛️ Must-sees Most of the main attractions are located in the center and accessible on foot. Uzhgorod Castle: This is the heart of the city. An 11th-century fortress with an interesting local history museum inside (collections of weapons, icons, household items). Be sure to climb the bastions for a panoramic view of the city, and also look for the miniature sculpture “Legends of Transcarpathian Castles” on the observation deck. Museum of Folk Architecture and Life (Skansen): Located right next to the castle. This is an open-air museum where authentic wooden houses, churches and mills from different parts of Transcarpathia are collected. Linden alley on the embankment: Take a walk along the Uzh River along the longest linden alley in Europe (about 2.2 km). This is an ideal place for a leisurely walk at any time of the year. Pedestrian Korzo Street: The main pedestrian street with cafes, shops and colorful facades. You can feel the special atmosphere of the city here. Botanical Garden of UzhNU: A quiet and cozy place to relax with a collection of thousands of plants from all over the world, including exotic palm trees. Mini-sculptures (Mikriki): "Trick" of Uzhgorod. There are dozens of small bronze figurines (more than 50) scattered throughout the city. Finding them is a separate exciting quest. Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic: The building of a former synagogue in the neo-Moorish style is one of the most striking architectural landmarks of the city. Even if you don't go to the concert, it's worth looking at it from the outside. 🗺️ For ease of navigation, the main attractions are located compactly. Uzhgorod Castle is located at: st. Kapitulnaya, 33. Next to it (160 m) is the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, and 300 m away is the Botanical Garden. Pedestrian street Korzo is about 600 m from the castle. 🍴Where to eat "Detsa at Notary": Cult restaurant complex, an unofficial calling card of the city. Famous for its Transcarpathian atmosphere, humor and generous portions of bograch and potato pancakes. Patisserie Shtefanyo: Popular place for desserts and coffee. Be sure to try the signature “Uzhgorod cake”. 🌳 If you have time and desire to go out of town, Schönborn Palace: Located about 20 km from Uzhgorod, in the village of Carpathians. A picturesque palace in the neo-Gothic style with a beautiful park. Mukachevo: Just 40 minutes' drive away is the town of the majestic Palanok Castle, one of Ukraine's most impressive fortresses.
