Arc de Triomphe Basic information: 🏛️ What is it: One of the most famous triumphal arches in the world National symbol of France 📍 Location: Place de l'Étoile, now Place Charles de Gaulle) In the western part of the Champs Elysees Center of the "Historical Axis" of Paris 🏗️ History: Built in 1806-1836 Customer: Napoleon Bonaparte (in honor of the victory at Austerlitz) Architect: Jean Chalgrin 📏 Dimensions: Height: 50 meters Width: 45 meters Depth: 22 meters 🎨 Features: Under the arch there is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the Eternal Flame (since 1920) Names are carved on the walls 660 generals and the names of 128 battles Bas-reliefs, including the famous “Marseillaise” (François Rude) Observation deck on the roof (284 steps or elevator) 💡 Interesting fact: 12 avenues depart from the square, forming a star (hence the former name of the square). 🎫 Tip: It’s best to climb the arch at sunset - it offers stunning views of 12 diverging avenues and the Eiffel Tower.
