Plaza de España, Barcelona

📍 Catalonia | 🗓 Excursion Season | 📅 02.08.2021 — 13.08.2021
All the squares in Catalonia named "Catalunya" are very small. Therefore, Piazza di Spagna looks pompous in contrast. Apparently the Spanish monarchy wanted to show who was boss in this way. Although the square itself cannot be considered separately from the Venetian towers, which are the gates to Mount Montjuïc with the fountain of the same name and the National Palace at the top. Everything is very imperial, heavy, majestic, arrogant. But there is also a big drawback - the absence of any shadow. And of course, to prevent onlookers from gathering, the fountains were turned off - the main decoration of this complex. Something reminiscent of Ancient Rome, you imagine yourself as an emperor who, from the height of the palace, watches over the city that lies at the foot of Montjuic Mountain.
