Italian Mafia village, Bayahibe

📍 Dominican Republic | 🗓 Beach Season | 📅 14.04.2021 — 25.04.2021
Legend has it that the first settlers here were representatives of the famous CosaNostra (Italian mafia). They began to build cottages and hotels for themselves. It sounds more or less plausible, if you look at the houses and cars that stand here, it’s clearly not poor Dominicans who live there. In the village, essentially only one street of bars, restaurants and travel agencies is intended for tourists, which stretches along the fence of the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach hotel. On the remaining streets there are either small hotels, shops, or villas. There are two grocery stores within walking distance for locals and one for Russians, also for tourists. Since large hotels operate on an All-Inclusive system, most likely the services of local bars and restaurants are mainly used by the mafiosi themselves and their descendants. For tourists in the village, the only thing missing is the sale of 4G Internet SIM cards.
